Sound Project

Spider Pig

Spider Pig

Does whatever a Spider Pig does

Can he swing from a web?

No he cant, he’s a pig.

Look out!

He is a Spider pig!!

For this project, we have to recreate a song with our voice and/or found song. I mainly record the whole song with my voice in different layer. I had a problem when i try to record my voice while playing other loop at the same time. It will somehow record my voice in a weird way or not recording at all. Therefore, i have to record different loops in a exact tempo, which gave me a big headache.

I used some effects like fade in/ fade out, echo, and some new features in beta version like GVerb. I think the beta version is more handy, because it allow me to record, cut & paste at any point. Also, there are like doubled effects in the newer version.

My song is a theme song from the Simpson's movie called "Spider Pig", which i think was very funny and within a length of exactly 45 seconds. I am not confident with my own voice, so, i add a final touch on the voice by changing its speed... :P
it turned out great, i think...

Sound Exercise

This is my sound exercise, and all my work was done in Audocity. I spent most of my time with tone, because it was kind fun when ?? played with it. I used all four loops Peter gave us. What i did was cut and paste the piano loop and reorganized it into some kind of loop; i also changed the tempo and pitch to make it sounds more fun. For bignoizything, I only duplicate it several times to make it longer. I used Wahwah and changed the tempo on the President Bush's speeches.

Vector Project - Quotes

My quote are:

"The good old days", The only good days are ahead - Alice Childress
"The present is a point just passed" - David Russell
"Dreams are today's answers to tomorrow's questions" - Edgar Cayce

This is a vector project, using Adobe Illustrator to editing three chosen quotes. I used a lot of tools in this project, from text & shapes to transform, and Effects. and its fun playing with all the features. I also played with layers, and surprised that there can be layers under layers.

Vector Exercise - Font

This is a vector exercise using Adobe Illustrator (CS4). I have played a little bit illustrator when i was in high school, but we only touched a little bit on it. The fonts i used are "cracked (CREATIVITY)", "Stencil Std Bold (IDEA)", "Myriad Pro (ART194)"...etc. The tools i used are Type Tool, Ellipse Tool, Envelope, Recolor Artwork...etc. The texts contain in this art work are "ART194 Vector - Creativity, Imagination, Idea".

Photomontage

This is the final piece of my photomontage project. Didn't get a good start finishing my first project on time, and I am sorry to turned this in late. This is a a building not too far away from our classroom. I believe its name is Lattie F. Coor Hall. Buildings that have a lot of windows always come to my favorite list, because they symbols the modern architecture and always reflect lights from the sun, which shines a lot. I took about 10 pictures on this building in different days, and used almost all of them on my work. The picture didn't line up exactly straight, but i kind like the feeling of its in-straightness. The tool i used were mostly copy&paste, crop and transform.

Discussion Questions

What is art?
Art is people's observation of things around or inside themselves. Artist transform what they feel, what they see, or even what they imagined into art. whether its an object, a paint, or through digital output.

How would you define art?
Different people see things differently. Different people views art differently too. To me, art is a way to express my ideas, my emotions, and my imaginations. Its a way of communication between the artist myself and my audiences.

Is it possible to assess and evaluate art?
yes, every art have its price, but people view art differently. Therefore, art pieces might be priceless to its creator. Art pieces might evaluate to be millions. But, some people might think they only cost few bulks.

If so, what is good art, and conversely, how can one determine what is bad art?

Its really hard to determine a good art or bad art. Technically, we can evaluate an art at whether its good or bad by looking inside its content, its composition, its effort of time, and its impact to people who sees it. Nevertheless, some people might dislike an art while some people love it to death.

Ceramic 09'

Today is the last day of summer session~ we had a wonderfull pot lot party and an overall critique on our ceramic works... =) i am so glad i took this class instead of scupture, wooden crafts or something like that~ i think ceramic is way much more flexible that i can do what ever i want to do with the clays...

Here are three of my favorite works, the simpson's family, a rattle ball, and a turtle shape cup~ The Simpsons took me a lot of time, and i am so sad that i messed up my glazing... Q____Q i put too much stain paints on them that the clear glazing didn't match with the clay well... = =|| good thing is i could repaint and fire them again, i guess i will do that either this coming fall or next year~

The simpson's family
(after 1st bisque fire)
(without glazing)

The simpson's family
(stain + clear glazing)

The rattle ball is a success, which i am very glad. the sounds are very clear and loud... =) i used iron dioxide for the line glazing, and it turned out wonderful!!

rattle ball with my signature.. XD
(iron dioxide)

The last one is my cup with a turtle head on it... lol they look so funny but beautiful~~ XD

Isn't he gorgerous... XDD the eye is a nice touch~
